When during the remodeling process should I paint?

If you’re having flooring installed you don’t want to risk anything happening to your new floors, but what about the risk of having those freshly painted walls damaged in the process of the old flooring is removed or new being put in?

Flooring or Paint, What comes first?

This may seem like a question difficult to answer, but really it comes down to whether or not your baseboards will be removed or replaced when the flooring is. The processing of ripping out baseboards will likely cause unwanted damage to your walls that requires repair. For this reason, there is little point in painting prior to this remodeling step.

If your baseboards will not be replaced when the flooring is changed, you can paint at any stage in the process. Naturally, it can still be beneficial to have permanent features like flooring, countertops, or even windows installed prior to painting. These permanent features can become useful tools during the color collection process.

Protecting Your New Floors From Paint Spills

A good painting company will treat your home the way they treat theirs and take the necessary precautions to make sure your property, including your flooring, is properly covered and protected during the painting process.

If you are concerned about how they will care for your home, ask about the companies jobsite policies and a list of referrals! Any company that isn’t ready to provide you with answers to these questions probably isn’t one you want to have to perform work in your home.
